Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 10:14:52 GMT

Idaho’s first In-N-Out burger opens today in the city of Meridian. And, if the past is any guide, we figure the drive-thru line has reached Winnemucca by now.But are those oh-so-patient people prepared once they finally make it through the line to order? The SoCal legend founded in 1948 in Baldwin Park boasts the only truly minimalist menu in the fast-food universe — just burgers, fries, shakes and drinks — but as we Californians know, those aren’t the only options. There’s the Not-So-Secret Menu, with its Animal Style variations (mustard-grilled patty, pickles and grilled onions) and the Flying Dutchman (two slices of cheese between two burger patties, no bun). And then there are all the In-N-Out hacks developed by devoted fans here in the land of red criss-crossed palm trees. We asked them to share, and here’s what they divulged. And just as folks on Twitter say that retweets do not necessarily mean endorsements, we like some of these ideas but can’t vouch for the, uh, more unus...

SAN JOSE – There was a time earlier this fall when San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture wondered whether his professional career was over at 34 years old.“I can honestly say two months ago, I would wake up and didn’t know if I was ever going to play in the NHL again,” Couture said Tuesday in his first public comments since the start of camp in mid-September. “It’s something that I thought of many, many days.”Couture, out with an unspecified lower-body injury since before training camp, endured two setbacks in his attempted recovery. The most recent one in late October forced him off the ice for about a month after he had started to ramp up his on-ice conditioning and appeared to be nearing a return.“When you’re injured, your mind does some crazy things. There are some crazy thoughts,” Couture said of the mental challenges he faced. “This is my life, and this is what I love to do, and your body doesn’t allow you to do it.”Couture has had to miss significant time before i...

How Biden’s State Department Conceals Its “Human Rights Black Hole” in the Middle East

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 10:14:52 GMT

Last week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken hosted a meeting with leaders of human rights organizations to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations. But through subtle stage management, the State Department arranged for Blinken’s praise for human rights to be recorded and promulgated — while the world was not able to hear the retorts from human rights advocates who criticized America’s backing of Israel’s war on Gaza. The Universal Declaration was a landmark in history. While it was only a statement of principles, and so did not have legal force in itself, it was broadly inspirational and has formed the basis for numerous subsequent treaties and laws. According to Guinness World Records, it’s been translated into more languages than any other document — over 550, from Abkhaz to Zulu. After the December 7 meeting, the internet exploded in bitter laughter at Blinken, and it’s easy to understand why.
