Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 20:18:06 GMT

For years, Seb Audy has visualized achieving the ‘Explorer’s Grand Slam.’ Also known as “Adventurers Grand Slam,” the quest includes scaling the world’s highest seven mountain peaks and reaching the North and South poles. To say it’s difficult is an understatement, Audy said. But the Chevy Chase, Maryland, resident has a strategy.“There’s a simple equation. You need to have a vision,” he said. “Then you need to have a strategy and a plan. And then execute with discipline and consistency.”Fewer than 70 people worldwide have achieved the Grand Slam. Audy has already climbed the mountains, from Everest to Vinson. Last year, he braved bone-chilling temperatures to reach the South Pole on skis. The last leg in his adventure goal, a ski expedition to the North Pole, has been canceled three years in a row. He plans to try again in April.“It’s very disappointing,” said Audy, who lives and trains in Maryland. “It’s a little bit like if you’re an Olympic athlete and two weeks before the Olympic...

GOP Rep. Ken Buck plans to challenge his party's direction under Trump as he leaves the House

WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Ken Buck has had enough. When the Colorado Republican announced this past week that he would not seek reelection, he began with the type of criticism of Democratic policies that is standard fare for a hard-line conservative. But then Buck turned his ire to fellow Republicans, spending most of the three-minute announcement video accusing them of being “obsessively fixated on retribution and vengeance for contrived injustices of the past.”Buck's scorched-earth approach caught few on Capitol Hill by surprise. With a deadpan demeanor, an independent streak and a background as a federal prosecutor, Buck has gained national prominence as a House Republican fed up with Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 presidential election he lost to Democrat Joe Biden and the Trump allies in Congress who amplify them. It's a stand few others in the GOP are taking and is a remarkable turn that shows just how deeply Trump's once-fringe lies about that race have settled into the Republ...

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli forces severed northern Gaza from the rest of the besieged territory and pounded it with intense airstrikes overnight into Monday, as the Palestinian death toll from a month of fighting passed 10,000. An even bloodier phase is expected as Israeli troops push into the dense confines of Gaza City.Palestinians held a mass funeral for dozens killed a day earlier in strikes in the south, where Israel has told civilians to seek refuge though it has continued to strike targets all across the coastal enclave.Troops are expected to enter Gaza City soon, Israeli media reported, and Palestinian militants who have had years to prepare are likely to fight street by street, launching ambushes from a vast network of tunnels.Casualties will likely rise on both sides in the war, which has already killed at least 10,022 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between fighters and civilians. The graffiti, which included a lewd drawing and the word “Jews,” left both Robinson and her husband, Robert Winess, astounded.“It was complete astonishment that in the middle of Boca Raton, we would come out and find such an overt anti-Semitic statement,” Winess expressed. Marvelous Monday

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 20:18:06 GMT

A marvelous Monday is underway setting the stage for a beautiful stretch in South Florida! Temperatures have been cool-ish in the mid to upper 60’s across Broward and Miami-Dade. The Florida Keys were in the low 70’s. Winds have turned out of the North due to high pressure building across the Gulf coast states. It will be the dominant feature all week providing for sunshine and mostly dry conditions. Only small changes happen this week with winds turning off the ocean helping temperatures slightly warm up by midweek. At best a slim shower chance, but tons of dry air will be around. Heading into Veteran’s Day highs could be nearing records with highs in the upper 80’s, in many spots. Have a wonderful week South Florida and make it a safe one!Vivian GonzalezMeteorologist, AMS Certified WSVN Channel 7
