Alhambra 'bridge house' sells for $180K over asking price

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 15:03:32 GMT

A unique home in Los Angeles County that captured the interest of California homebuyers and started a wider conversation about the high cost of getting into the real estate market has found a new owner. The home, located on the 1300 block of Main Street in Alhambra, was a popular open house destination for Angelenos because of its price - a modest (for California) $250,000. But it also made nationwide headlines due to its location. It's built into the side of a bridge that overlooks a drainage ditch. A one-of-a-kind real estate listing in Alhambra has captured the attention of hundreds of prospective buyers since it went on the market in May 2023. (Douglas Lee Real Estate)If you don't know what you're looking for, you'll drive right past it — it's not visible on Google Maps. You need to take a flight of stairs down to the home's front door. Inside you'll find one bedroom, one bathroom and a living time capsule from the home's construction. Douglas Lee, the realtor who's been working ...

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 15:03:32 GMT

NEW YORK — Considering the disparate directions the Giants’ and Mets’ seasons have taken so far, it should have come as no surprise. Before the ball had even found a landing spot, eventually settling on the batter’s eye in center field, the air had been sucked out of the 30,116 spectators at Citi Field, who braved smokey skies from Canadian wildfires to see something that’s become a regular occurrence this season. The Giants’ lineup woke up late to erase an early deficit. The Mets’ bullpen blew a late lead. And the big hit came from none other than rookie catcher Patrick Bailey, who hammered a hanging breaking ball from David Robertson 432 feet to center field for a three-run homer that completed San Francisco’s comeback in a 5-4 win in the opening game of its weekend series in New York.“That was as good as it gets,” manager Gabe Kapler said, breaking with his typically even-keeled nature to downplay expectations for a young player. “...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Mauricio Dubón lined a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning, and the Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers 5-3 on Friday night to open a series matching in-state rivals atop the AL West. Not long before the first pitch, the division-leading Rangers, coming off six consecutive losing seasons, made the first big move of trading season by getting once-dominant closer Aroldis Chapman from Kansas City.Jose Altuve crushed that first pitch from Jon Gray for a game-opening homer, but the defending World Series champion Astros fell behind 3-1 on back-to-back solo home runs from two of Texas’ four All-Star starters, Josh Jung and Jonah Heim.Houston had cut the deficit to one when Dubón sent a liner past the rookie Jung at third base after José Abreu and Yainer Diaz opened the sixth with consecutive singles.Four Houston relievers retired 12 of 13 Texas batters after rookie starter Ronel Blanco (2-0) allowed three runs with four hits, four walks and two home...

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The scheduled game between the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals was postponed because of inclement weather Friday night. It will be made up Saturday night at 6:15 p.m. as the finale of a split doubleheader, with the first game set to begin as originally planned at 1:15 p.m. Minus injured slugger Aaron Judge, the Yankees have won four of five and six of nine. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — David and Dominic Fletcher got to play against each other for the first time in a major league game. Fittingly, it came at a stadium where they had watched plenty of games while growing up.Unfortunately, the Fletcher brothers biggest fan was not in attendance Friday night when David’s Los Angeles Angels hosted Dominic’s Arizona Diamondbacks at Angel Stadium.Their father, Tim, died suddenly earlier this month. He was 60.“This would have been one of his proudest moments,” Dominic Fletcher said. “Every night he turned on the TV and had both of our games going on simultaneously. To be able to be here and watch would have been one of his favorite things.”The Fletcher brothers grew up in Orange, California, and played together for one year at Cypress High School, which is 10 miles (16.09 kilometers) from Angel Stadium. At 29, David Fletcher is the older brother by four years. They also played together for Italy in the World Baseball Classic. Their mother,...
