An independent law firm investigating a fatal shooting by a New Mexico State basketball player recommended the school enhance its weapons policy and ” strengthen a culture that encourages student-athletes to adhere to the integrity and values of NMSU at all times.”The school released the report Thursday evening, on the first full day of the NCAA Tournament, an event the Aggies were not eligible for after canceling their season in February.An executive summary of the report did not identify any NCAA violations or failure of the school to meet legal obligations. The summary said the report was restricted by the absence of several witnesses, “including multiple basketball coaches and players,” who refused to cooperate or were unavailable. TORONTO (AP) — A 16-year-old wounded his mother with a firearm and then killed two police officers before taking his own life in western Canada early Thursday, officials told The Associated Press. A police official and a senior government official said the male suspect shot and wounded his mother in Edmonton, Alberta. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as each was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. Earlier, Edmonton Police Chief Dale McFee said the two officers were fatally shot when they arrived at an apartment building on a domestic dispute call around 12:47 a.m. He said there was no indication the officers were able to return fire. McFee said other officers sent to the apartment then found the young man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Blackhawks forward Cole Guttman had surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday.The team said the operation was performed in Los Angeles. Team physician Michael Terry said the 23-year-old Guttman is expected “to be out of hockey activities for approximately four months.”Guttman had been a pleasant surprise for rebuilding Chicago. He made his NHL debut last month and finished the season with four goals and two assists in 14 games.Guttman was selected by Tampa Bay in the 2017 draft.
