By Arielle Brumfield | CNNNEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (WDSU) — A large rental car company has apologized to a Puerto Rican man after denying him a car he paid for at the New Orleans International Airport.Humberto Marchand traveled to the city and paid for a rental car through Hertz ahead of his trip.When he arrived, he was denied the car after the employee demanded to see a passport.Marchand is a United States citizen and did not have his passport on him because his flight was domestic. A surfer died Sunday after being pulled from the water at Moonstone Beach, near Trinidad, the Humboldt County sheriff’s office said.Deputies were called at 3:50 p.m. for a surfer in distress. The woman had reportedly become unattached from her surfboard and was “overcome by waves,” the sheriff’s report said. She was pulled unconscious to the shore by another beachgoer, and a Coast Guard helicopter took her to a hospital in Eureka. She was pronounced dead there.The woman was identified as Martina Scarfia, 25, of Eureka.Her sister told the Lost Coast Outpost that Scarfia had graduated the previous day from the nursing program at College of the Redwoods.The sister said Scarfia lost consciousness in the water because of an unspecified medical emergency. LOS ANGELES — A man who waged a year-long series of BB gun attacks on a Southern California Planned Parenthood clinic was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in federal prison.Richard Royden Chamberlin, 53, was sentenced Monday in Los Angeles federal court, the U.S. attorney’s office said in a statement.At least 11 attacks targeted a Planned Parenthood facility in Pasadena between June 2020 and May 2021. Three people were killed Monday night in Antioch when their vehicle struck a tree. Police received calls at 10:23 p.m. reporting a vehicle crash at 4198 Lone Tree Way.Officers found a vehicle with three occupants that hit a tree. All three occupants had major injuries and were subsequently pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel, police said. (KRON) -- Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price wrote a letter to the Board of Supervisors requesting more than $300,000 to cover onboarding expenses from hiring private contractors during an extended onboarding period for her team when she took over in January.
