Parts of Quebec under rainfall warning, localized flooding on some Montreal streets MONTREAL — Parts of Quebec are subject to rainfall warnings as Environment Canada forecasts some areas could receive up to 70 millimetres of additional rain between today and tomorrow.Environment Canada meteorologist Dominic Martel reports between 50 and 60 millimetres of rain has already fallen in the Montreal area since Friday evening.Water accumulated on several Montreal streets this morning, in some cases overflowing onto sidewalks and private property.Environment Canada says it expects between 40 and 70 millimetres of rain in much of the central part of the province, including the Montreal area, between Saturday morning and Sunday morning.The federal weather agency says areas of higher elevation could see as much as 100 millimetres of additional rainfall this weekend.Between 50 and 80 millimetres of rain are expected further east, in areas along the St. Lawrence River northeast of Quebec City, between Saturday evening and Sunday evening.This report by The Canadian Press was fir...

The West Indian manatee species — which "cannot tolerate temperatures below 68 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time," according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — is generally found off the Florida coast and in the Caribbean. The manatee seen in Rhode Island was first spotted swimming in Quonochontaug Pond on Sept. 11 before slowly making its way toward Narragansett. Man sentenced to 7 years for 2020 murder in Austin AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was sentenced Tuesday in connection to a 2020 murder in west Austin.Darcy McMillian, 37, was sentenced to seven years in prison, according to court documents. He was charged with and pleaded guilty to murder-handgun. On March 26, 2020, Austin first responders found a man lying on the road in West Austin. After life-saving attempts, the man died at the scene. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Zach Ledbetter. As of Saturday, McMillian remains in the Travis County Correctional Complex.

Armed man killed by police outside shopping center in San Fernando Valley  A suspect was killed following a shooting involving police officers in Canoga Park early Saturday morning, authorities said. According to officials with the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a radio call of an armed suspect in a pickup truck in the parking lot of a shopping mall at the corner of Sherman Way and Variel Avenue just before 1 a.m.Upon arriving on scene, officers located the suspect and, when he failed to comply with verbal commands, an officer-involved shooting occurred, officials said.The suspect, only described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second suspect who was with the man was questioned and then released, police said. The area remained closed for investigation through 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
